The Taroni shipyard, which is situated in Stresa, is one of the oldest yards of Italy. George Taroni, who was a pioneer in motorised boats, founded the yard in 1860. It was the first yard of its kind at Lake Maggiore that constructed boats, which were used by the army in, for example, the First World War.
